Biography on Alexander the Great

Alexander the great was the king of  Macedonia. By the age of 30 he had created one of the largest empires in ancient history. He was undefeated in battles and is considered one of the most successful commanders of all time. Alexander the great was born in Pella. I think that he does deserve the name the Great, because he did lots of great things as he ruled over his country.

A day in the life of......

Theseus, was a brave 16 year old teenager. He told stories to his friends of how he had killed a monster called the Minotaur. Every one loved his stories but no one believed it. He tried, and tried over and over again to get them to believe him, but it didn't work, till one day he said he was going to come face to face with another evil monster and kill it and bring it back home. Before he left he was very nervous for this day, he was scared he was going to die and no one would remember him, so he asked 3 of his friends to go with him on this unforgettable adventure. Hercules, Jason and Argonauts had said yes.

The day finally came. They where in the kingdom waiting for the right time, till the people got bored and just kicked them out, since they couldn't wait any longer. The journey began. As the walked through the forests and mountains and along the rivers and lakes, the came upon things they would have never thought to find on there way. They killed and captured these things and almost died facing these things. They found a place to build a hut, make their food and so on. They went hunting for food to cook and eat, and tried finding big shells where they could carry water and drink out of. They continued like this for about 5 years.

The night had finally come where Theseus felt the earth moving, he heard foot steps, not normal but huge. He said to be quiet and walked out of the hut. Him and his friends had found foot steps, not normal but huge, and followed them. They played quietly for this to be the night where they would actually find this monster every one feared. No one even dared to say its name. The Poloplanymos actually existed. As their eyes opened wide to see the monster, Theseus was blinded because he had looked straight into the eye of the monster. His 3 friend where fighting the monster trying to kill it, but it was hopeless. Theseus stood up and said, don't bother he said, i will kill it. He stood up grabbing something from the ground and through it at the monster. The monster cried in pain, and fell down to the floor dead. It was a stick, a stick that killed that thing hos friends say. You are a true hero they said in delight, a true hero and everyone well remember you.

When they got back home after 5 years, everyone said to Theseus, you almost died to show us you where not lying, that is what a great hero does. They celebrated that day even though Theseus couldn't see. After a few years he was healed, and was happy to be a hero who everyone loved.

The Spartan Way

SUMMARY:

Sparta's desire for a strong army had a great deal to do with its relationship with neighboring Messenia. Sparta conquered Messenia which gave them control over a large area of fertile control. The Spartans demanded that any food grown by the people living in Messenia had to to give have of their food to the Spartan's. For more than 200 years Sparta was the most powerful city-state in ancient Greece. The Power of Sparta came from the professional army. Brutal training and discipline made Sparta's army one of the most-feared fighting forces ever.
Athens was the birthplace of democracy, where all citizens could vote on city matters. Sparta was a a secretive place and was run by the wealthy/rich families. Spartan's kep few writen records and left few ruins for historians to study.

Very early Greeks where the start of the ancient olympics. A lot of Greek legends describe most of the olymmpic competitions/events. The most popular one tells the story of a famous chariot race held near Olympus bewtween a king named Enamaus. According to legend he had a beautiful daughter named Hippodamia. he promised her marriage to the first man who could find her, and escape in a chariot with her father in pursuit. 13 young men failed to the task. And Enamaus put each one to death. then came Pelops's turn. When he had found the princes and had the king, the king mysteriously broke his neck and died. Pelops's married Hippodamia and declared himself king.

In the early day of the games the only reward was a wreath. For many centuries, woman were barred not only as competitors, but also also as spectators. The penalty for braking this rule was death. By the time of the 128th Olympics, woman were aloud to compete, and as well watch the games. In that year according to the ancient written records the winner of a chariot race was a woman named Belisiche, from the country of Macedonia. After a c time they also included footraces, chariot races, wrestling, boxing, and a brutal sport called pancratium. Men where often permanently injured or killed in this event.

blog post #2

 a) What values were most important to early Greeks and why were they considered important?

Justice was on of the most important ones. The others where pretty much the same, but i might have just understood wrong. I think that these where important because for someone to be a hero or royalty or a god they should be in one of these categories. Each one must have one of theses values or more.

   b) In what ways are early Greeks values found in modern society?

In the modern society Greek values are as important as they use to be. Each human has a value. The Greek values are more for hero's and royal people and gods, but now in modern time it can describe any people but maybe not with the exact word.
